Here is the cover of my book on tour!
The Sketchbook Project 2011 is under way and my sketchbook is in the mix! In the midst of several other projects I made the time to get it complete and I'm thankful for the support that got it in the mail to Brooklyn.
Creating this book is not one of my great works but it was a healing book for me to create. Creating for me is always a Spiritual experience and an escape from the world; a respite. For me there is no right or wrong only authentic expression and becoming free in the process. This project focused on my view of living life with Aspergers. Its not always an easy story for me to tell, but the more I embrace it the more others can also. And like all the other stories I am called to share through art. I did it with carino, a true heart, and in a fun creative way.
So now my little book is part of thousands of sketchbooks that will be exhibited at galleries and museums as they make their way on tour across the country. After the tour, all sketchbooks will enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be available for the public to view.
Months ago artists were sent moleskin sketchbooks to complete with whatever filled our heads and our hands. Any medium was OK so I chose to tell my story using paper collage, paint, and a few drawings. I try to rotate what medium I work in so when I get back around to it again it feels fresh in my hands. We each had a theme and the books will be cataloged as any library with official bar code and checkout system. Each artist can set up a profile at the Art House Coop site. My book will be digitized so it will be available online for viewing. Another nice feature is an email letting me know when someone has checked out my book to enjoy.
Hope you get an opportunity to view them either in person or online and get inspired. Then have fun creating your own personal sketchbook to tell your story!
